It's over! We can all breathe for a second. Okay, do it with me. Ready? Deep breath in. Hold...and release. All that stress from 2020? Let's release it. Let's let it all go.
I know a lot of people feel some type of way about all of the "new year, new me" resolution stuff but honestly? I love setting new goals. I love the fresh start.
Why not take this as an opportunity to take everything we all learned from the last year and actually put it into practice? So I ordered a vision board kit off of Amazon and have been really intentional while working on it. I'm bringing a lot of positive energy into 2021. Some of my really big goals are to be more honest and giving. So for this episode, I want to get real vulnerable and personal with you all share my goals, resolutions, whatever you want to call them, with you. Basically, I want to share what's going on my vision board and maybe it'll inspire you to make your own. Ready? Let's go.
Here are the episode highlights:
‣‣ [06:45] First, I want to talk about how important it is to take breaks but ALSO how important it is to be intentional with how you came back from that break.
‣‣ [10:17] This year I want to break my habit of comparisonitis and I just want to embrace myself more.
‣‣ [16:46] In 2021 I want to be more honest. That's one of my goals. So honestly - I want to hit 100K followers by the end of the year.
‣‣ [18:20] The new year is a time when a lot of people, myself included, make lofty fitness goals. But this year I'm not feeling the crazy fitness goals.
‣‣ [19:05] I love this podcast and I put a lot of love and effort into it because I love this community and want to provide you all with quality content. So I want to take this podcast into the top 10. I really do.
‣‣ [20:06] This is my affirmation for this year.
‣‣ [20:26] In 2021 I want to be more intentional with my spending.
‣‣ [21:45] Boundaries are incredibly important - I think we all learned more about that in 2020. This year I'm going to set better work boundaries.
‣‣ [24:48] The biggest thing I want to do this year is that I want to be more giving.

Sheila Bella:
Welcome 2021. We are going to chat all things my vision board and whether or not you should have one and should you include some of the things that I have on there on yours? Like, should you? Should you, is that a good idea? Because I have good ideas, maybe you should copy my good ideas.
But today I'm going to talk to you about the one thing that I have realized throughout this little social media detox that I do every end of the year. I go MIA every end of the year and it is glorious. And then I miss you guys too much and I'm like, "Okay, let's come back." And if you're listening for the first time in your like, "Who is this broad? Who is this broad?" My name is Sheila Bella. I have built multiple seven figure businesses, both online, as well as a brick and mortar beauty business and I'm here to help you figure it out and do the same thing. And honestly, we have a lot of listeners here who are not necessarily in the beauty industry, but they're like, "Dang, this podcast is so useful and I'm not even in the beauty industry. Oh my gosh." So if it is your first time here, welcome. So today we are going to chat all things vision board for 2021. Here we go.
Welcome to Pretty Rich Podcast, where you're totally the heroine of your own story. I'm your host, Sheila Bella. And I built a seven figure PMU beauty biz, and a seven figure online biz without a degree, without a fancy website or a sugar daddy. And if you and I hang out on here long enough, you're going to start to believe that you can do it too. How about that for a side effect of listening to this podcast? Because you really can. I know you think, I don't know you, I've no idea who you are, but I do. I really, really do because I am you. I was you and I believe we are all on the same journey together.
My perfect job didn't exist, so I created it. The job I wanted, wasn't hiring me, wanted nothing to do with me, so I skipped the line and hired myself as CEO, just like you can. So consider me your secret beauty biz BFF. In case you need to be reminded on a weekly basis that power is never just handed to you, you have to take it. Are you ready beauty boss? Let's jump in.
Hey guys. Welcome to another amazing episode of Pretty Rich Podcast. And it's the first one of the month, it's the first of the month. It's the first of the year. Wait, what is my husband doing for me right now? Why are you showing me that?
Will:
The rash, [inaudible 00:02:58].
Sheila Bella:
Oh my gosh, I just-
Will:
Sorry.
Sheila Bella:
Did you guys hear him? He showed me a rash.
Will:
It's a brush burn.
Sheila Bella:
You know this is my opening episode, Will? I'm not going to edit that.
Oh gosh. Do you married couples relate to this? That was an intimate area. Yes, but his rash is getting better. Okay guys, I am totally sitting here on my dining room table right now and I have in front of me a vision board kit that I got on Amazon for, I think like $20 or something like that, and it comes with everything. It even comes with scissors. It comes with glue. It comes with Velcro. It comes with like a glitter paper, et cetera, et cetera. So it has everything you need for creating a vision board and I have one every year typically. And I think a lot of people have a love, hate relationship with vision boards and New Year's resolutions. I love them. I do, because you know why? I have an inner word to myself that I know I can rely on. I follow it through.
And guys, it wasn't always like that. It wasn't always like that, especially when I was starting out in my business. Yeah, I wasn't the most reliable person. I couldn't truly trust the promises that I would make to myself. And then I just had a come to Jesus moment where I realized that the only person that I was cheating on was me. I was cheating myself out on my highest potential. I realized that me not keeping my own promises to myself was a big deal. It's a really big deal. So that's why I find New Year's Eve, New Year's resolutions to be really exciting because it's an opportunity for me to reflect and reassess on the previous year and improve. So I'm going to open up here because I love this community and I'm going to share with you guys some of the things that I put on my vision board this year.
But before we get to that, I want to read the review of the month, iTunes review of the month. And this person is also the winner of the free online course. If you guys didn't know, if you leave a five star review on iTunes, I might choose you to not only win an online course on sheilabella.com/programs, but also I'm going to read your review on the air. It's just a little thank you for taking the time to review this podcast because your reviews mean the freaking world to me. They really do. Okay, so this month's winner is Diane Z, so fresh and so glam on Instagram. And she says, "Best beauty information." She says, "I appreciate all the information offered. Any questions that I may have, I can come on this podcast, scroll and find what I'm looking for. Anything from marketing, sales, PMU, how to, et cetera. Thank you, Sheila, for never giving up on this podcast." And that's by Diane Z on Instagram. Her handle is so fresh and so glam. I love it. So go check her out and we're actually going to be messaging you Diane so you can take your pick on any online course focused on the beauty industry on sheilabella.com/programs. Woo-hoo.
Okay. It's time to get real you guys. So I take an end of the year kind of like a break, just a mental, social media and work detox and I shift into this end of the year gear. I don't do it too early. I do it kind of like in between Christmas and New Year's, which is one of my favorite weeks of the year, actually. It's just a time full of family and reflection and excitement for what's to come and the possibilities for what's to come. And during this quiet time, I felt a couple of different things.
Number one, the times that I did get back on social media and just start scrolling, I felt anxiety. The same anxiety you guys talk about all the time. Social media is just so full of just stimuli. It's really hard to control what you see. So I like to use social media as a way to shape my thinking by being very intentional about the accounts that I follow. I don't just follow anybody. I actually have a personal account, a private family account. And to me, that is the account that I consume, that I consume information on and it's a lot smaller of a follow count.
But I couldn't help it, I still couldn't help but feel anxiety every time I opened my app. And I'm like, "Oh, this is how my students feel. This is how my girls feel." And at the same time I wasn't doing any content creation. I wasn't creating any content. So I felt my brain rotting at the same time because I'm like, "I know that I'm a well of inspiration." I know that, but I wasn't using that gift. I wasn't using that muscle. I was just kind of like observing and staying quiet and seeing what is within myself that would emerge as opposed to consumption and then creation, consumption, and creation. How about no consumption and just create from within? I wanted to try it that way.
So when it came time to jump back onto social media, right? I was like, "All right, it's time to post." And I got nothing, I got nothing and then I dug a little bit deeper, right? And I think a lot of you guys feel that way, you know you need to post, you know it's the day to do it and then you're like nothing. And I decided to reframe my thinking. The reason why I think a lot of people struggle to post on social media consistently is because they feel like they have to be a certain way and I felt like I needed to be a certain way. I'm like, "Oh, Whoa, Whoa, wow." We scroll through the internet jungle thinking, "Ah, I got to be like her. I got to do what she's doing. I have to look like that and I got to match that energy." So I felt pressure to match the energy that when I last posted, I got to be just like that. And I said, "Wait a second. That's not who you are, Sheila. That's not your brand anyway, so why you putting pressure on yourself?"
So, I get it. You probably are in this situation sometimes. You find yourself in this situation, when you've already exhausted your mind, because you've been consuming, consuming, consuming, and then it's your turn and you're like the F-word, right? I can't be like them and that's comparisonitis. But you know what's so much easier, so much easier than that, is to be yourself. Whoever you currently are, whoever that is and it changes every day. Gosh, we're women, we have hormones, okay, depending on what time and our cycle it is. Just show up, just show up. And I realized, you know what? It's a lot easier to just be exactly who I am. I just want to be me this year. I want to be real. I just want to be authentic. I want to be genuine. And if I get paid for that as a byproduct, wow, that's really success because I was just myself.
And this 2021, I feel like leaning into that truth. I don't want to post just for likes. I don't want to post just for engagement. I just want to tell the truth. And I'm an eight on Enneagram. And listen, eights tell the fricking truth. That's where I feel authentic. That's where I feel good, frankly. I feel good when I tell the truth. So this philosophy is just so much easier and it's so much in alignment with my personality type. And you know I always tell the truth, but gosh, I just want to lean into that even more so.
Now I'll be turning 39 in March this year and I'm done apologizing for who I am and my thoughts. Like if I don't stop apologizing now than when am I going to stop? And let's say I say something that's wrong, incorrect factually, or perhaps I changed my mind on something and then maybe I'll regret saying it. If I'm wrong, I need to be okay with that. We all need to be okay with imperfection. If I was truthful at the time that I said it, I should be okay with that. That's all you can do is just offer the world, the universe, anybody you love, who you are exactly at that time.
Brow and lash clients are getting pickier and pickier. If they can't get an appointment right away, they're going to go somewhere else. If you're an artist who's booked out for months, before you congratulate yourself, that's not always a good thing. Why? Because you're losing money as a solo act. You're losing scalability. You're so busy working in your business that you don't have time to work on it. Wasn't the whole point of getting into the beauty business having freedom of time, being able to make your own schedule, making lots of money. But I know it doesn't feel like that for a lot of people, you feel like a brow or a lash robot, right? So stop limiting yourself. If you know you need to expand, you need to delegate tasks, you need a clone, you need to multiply yourself. But you're scared, I get it.
I've hired 14 artists to work for me at Sheila Bella Microblading and it's great. My business makes money even when I'm not there and I have people that I can really trust. So if it's possible for me, it's possible for you. If you know you need to expand, delegate tasks, multiply yourself, heck find your clone. You can do it. But if you're scared and you don't know where to start, I have the perfect thing for you, sister. Download my free Beauty Biz Hiring Guide. It's for artists who are overworked and underpaid. And all you need to do is text the words, Hiring Guide to 310-388-4588.
I want to help people find their voice. I want to help people who have lost their confidence discover it again. I want to help people financially who are in a bad spot. And let's talk about that first of all. I'm feeling a calling this year to help people financially, not even just through coaching. I feel a calling to be generous. I want to give money away. I want to give money. I want to give breaks to people who deserve breaks. I don't care if my post don't make any sense or if I don't have proper flow or grammar or I go on a weird tangent, like I just did right now, I just want to be real. Like here's what's in my heart, what's in my head, on the outside but right, right now.
And so my number one goal for 2021 is just to be honest, just to be honest. And I think if I lean into that even more, not only do I think my impact will be greater, but I think my capacity to be more consistent will be there. I'll have the energy to do it. If I release all expectation and pressure to show up as this energetic influencer, which I am. Like, Sheila, what are you talking about? You're always energetic. Am I? I guess I just have like an energetic personality, I suppose, but I don't feel that way all the time. I don't.
Hey, if this resonated with you, if this is something that you can relate to, I want you to text me about it because I love hearing you guys as feedback on stuff on this podcast. No really, my phone number, if you want to text me about your thoughts on this, is area code (310) 388-4588. That's area code (310) 388-4588.
So I promised you guys that I was going to share very intimate details, just like my husband walked in here and showed me his rash. Oh my gosh. Yeah, I still can't believe I'm not editing that out.
So I wanted to share you guys very intimate details about what's on the Sheila Ferrari Bella Molina vision board. I have so many names. Okay, so I'm going through my papers right now. So this is what I want to do. Okay? So by the end of the year, I want to hit a hundred thousand Instagram followers. Why? It feels good. It feels good to see a hundred thousand. I tell you guys that followers don't matter, right? Sales matter. I believe it. I know people who have not that many followers who were doing very well financially, so you can turn your followers into clients any day. But I don't know, I feel like I've been at this game for long enough. And the way I'm going to do that is I'm going to take advantage of Reels. I'm going to aim for four Reels a week.
I actually had a call with Instagram. I didn't even tell you guys this. I had a call with Instagram. They called me and they told me, "Hey, your stuff's awesome. We want to help you strategize. And it looks good, but we need you to aim for four Reels a week." I think they're trying to ramp up their Reels. And so just a little inside tip, if you want to get ahead of the algorithm, they told me themselves directly that they're really favoring Reels.
What else? As far as health is concerned, I usually have very, very strict and lofty fitness goals. Not this year, no. I just want to be healthy. I want to aim for just a lower carb lifestyle. I've been low carb for a while now, but I think I want that to be my baseline, whether that's veganism or pescetarianism. Whatever it is, I'm just going to stay away from the sugar because that makes me feel better, plain and simple. It's not even like a body thing, I just feel so much better when I don't have starches or sugars.
All right, podcast. So I want to start ranking, not just in the top of 100 in careers, I want to be in the top 10. I want to be in the top 10 in careers. Thanks to you guys, this podcast is number like 50 something on iTunes in the United States. Yeah, for careers, it's the same category as like Grant Cardone and Pat Flynn, which they're in like the top 10. If Pretty Rich Podcast gets to the top 10 in careers this year, I would be so happy. And the way I'm going to do that is I'm going to continue doing what I'm doing, plain and simple. So doing two podcasts a week consistently. And actually, I think what I want to add to that is I want to create more video podcasts content, like more video previews so it's shareable.
Okay. So this one is just an affirmation, just a reminder that's going on my vision board. I am a child of the Great I Am. That's one of my favorite names for our Lord and Savior. So when he calls himself the Great I Am, like dang, that is baller. What? The Great I Am.
So as you guys know, we purchased our dream home end of last year. And yeah, I want to put my money into my Instagram house. That's what I want to do. So we're probably going to move in probably end of summer this year and so I'm really excited to make that a reality and put my money in that Instagram house. And I think I'm going to cut down on shopping for other things. I find myself shopping, like online shopping, a little mindlessly, to be honest with you. Like in the middle of the night, it's not a good habit. It's not a good habit. I don't know. It's like a stress reliever or something like that. I don't know. It's fun. Guys, when you see something on Instagram and you're like, "Oh, that's cute." And you're like, "I'll buy it." It's just, I just need to get rid of that habit.
Okay. What else? Yes. This next one is about that. I want to give more money to my church, so that's something that I am committing to this year. That's that piece of paper. That's that graphic on my vision board.
Oh, I want to get a little bit better with my discipline and boundaries as far as time commitments. So I typically have a very long workday and since I work from home, it's very easy to never clock out because you're like, "Oh, yeah. I'm just at work." You're always at work because you work from home. I work where I sleep sometimes. Lots of times I create content in bed. Why? Because it feels good there. I have a really nice bed, okay? I just bought the chilly pad. So here's what I want to do. I want to have a true 9:00 to 6:00 work day. And if I'm being honest with you, that 9:00 AM start time, I get distracted sometimes. I'm home. And sometimes I start putting my makeup on at like 11:00, 11:00 AM, more like noon.
But if I have a lofty goals for my business this year, I want to hit half a million in revenue a month, if I want that, I need to start showing up on time and really start treating this as if I was clocking into the office. And typically when you clock into the office at 9:00 AM, you're not doing your makeup anymore. It's done. You did it already. So with that said, that is something I'm going to be working on, having a true 9:00 to 6:00 workday with a one hour lunch break, because that's important. And which is great, because my commute is so great. There's no traffic between my bed and the office, but sometimes I like to work in my dining room.
What else is on my vision board? Let me see. Okay, this one's a little personal, but I'll share. Sure. I want to have a body positive, hashtag body positive, type photo shoot this year. I think I'm going to have, I didn't even tell him this yet, my dear friend, Ray Terrano on Instagram. He is The Photographer. Isn't that cool? That's his handle, The Photographer. So I've known Ray since I was 12 years old. Yeah. I've known him since I was like 12 years old or something like that. And so he does a lot of glamour shots and he photographs a lot of beautiful women. It's very sexy. But I don't know, for me, I want to capture my body this year with the current shape that it is. And yeah, I just want to embrace it, like flaws and all. And I want to be an example for young girls to embrace their bodies at every stage of their lives. So, that's something I want to accomplish this year.
Another thing I really want to accomplish is I want to give. I think I told you guys that in the beginning of this episode, I want to give. I want to be generous and I want to film it because I want to inspire others to do the same thing. I want to create a movement in our industry. I don't want to just do like, Oh, giveaways. I just want to just give. Can I just choose somebody that I really want to give to and just like give? I think that would be really incredible because there are a lot of people in the beauty industry who are hurting right now, especially because of this pandemic and the shutdowns. We're still shut down in Los Angeles and there's some specific people that I'm thinking of that I'm like, wow, they're just really good people and they just had bad luck this year. But I know God has a purpose for them and perhaps they just need a break. I want to figure out how to do that. Logistically speaking, logistically speaking, how I would go about doing that.
And as far as my marriage, my marriage is concerned and my family life. I got to say like, everything is the best it's ever been. I feel like I'm the happiest I have ever been in my relationships. I don't know if that's because of us being in quarantine and isolate and everybody just being home. I'm sure that has a lot to do with it. But I feel my husband and I becoming more spiritually aligned, and this is something that I prayed for for several years and it's just easier. We're really grateful. We're really grateful and there's no doubt in my that he is who God has intended me for. Like he is really my perfect match you guys, he's really my perfect match. Because I mean listen, I get hot and bothered whenever Channing Tatum comes on scene in like The Vow or something like that.
But then yeah, there's a lot of handsome, attractive celebrities and men out there, right? But I think about who would I respect? That's a big deal. That's a really big deal for me. Like I said, I'm an eight on the Enneagram. I don't believe everyone, I don't. I believe dreams can come true. Yeah, that's different. I'm a Pisces too, so our favorite phrase as Pisces is, I believe. But being an eight on the Enneagram and also a Pisces is really interesting because even though I'm a dreamer and I'm a water sign and I believe, I'm also very discerning of who I believe. And I get annoyed by people who are too nice sometimes.
And Will, I don't know what it is, but I just have the deepest respect for this man. He is not afraid to be assertive and also humble himself. He is so self-aware, and at the same time, he's brilliant. I feel like he can hold a conversation with anybody of any IQ level. I am so proud to introduce him to people. No matter who they are, whatever beliefs they hold, whatever gender they are, I'm just proud of who he is. Like here, yes. I know that's like an Asian mom trait, like you will bring honor to our family. Because I value social smarts, yeah, in that way, I just find him to be somebody who can really hold a conversation and carry himself properly and impressively with different groups of people and be charming and genuinely interested in their lives because I think that matters. You know, can't just be all about you.
And I also think he has amazing bone structure. He has great bone structure and he's fit. He's a healthy guy. So yeah, I really feel blessed to have Will. He's so good to me. I know how much he loves me and I know it's real because it's not an easy love, if that makes sense. It's not easy. We don't avoid conversations. We don't avoid difficult conversations. So when he gives me a compliment, it's so in alignment with my eight personality. As much as I've told him in the past, it was like, "Why can't you just compliment me?" He doesn't give them easily, but he does give them often. And I respect that because being an eight on the Enneagram, you are not easily flattered by people.
So yeah, it's like God knew exactly what he was doing when he put us together and we are two sinners. As you guys know who've been listening to this podcast for a long time, Will is my second husband, which means I had a divorce. I got a divorce at an early age and that's a guilt that I have not been able to let go of for a very long time. But why else did Jesus have to die on the cross? Why else? Oh, because I'm so perfect? No, because yeah, I've made mistakes and that's grace for you and that's the spirit of Christmas, which we just went through.
So yeah, that's pretty much everything on my vision board you guys. This podcast was not planned. It is definitely just like genuine stream of consciousness, so I promise I'll have something slightly more structured for you in the next couple of days. But I just want to thank you for those of you who have made it all the way to the end of this podcast. Honestly, and if you did make it all the way to the end of this podcast, let me know on Instagram @RealSheilaBella, because I love connecting with you and I really value you.
