Every successful business has its failures, you know? We all have our moments. Look at New Year's Resolutions. How often have you thought "this is the year I'm going to do this thing" and then at the end of the year beat yourself up over not getting there or doing that thing. You're not alone.
In this episode, I want to get to the root of that dilemma. You're not incapable of succeeding or achieving your goals. You just have to decide. And decision looks like action. I know that sounds too simple but I break it all down and this episode so you'll want to check it out.
Here are the episode highlights:
‣‣ [02:01] We start off with my first example of things I tried that I never really followed through with. We all flop sometimes.
‣‣ [03:56] And that time I bought so many batches of false lash designs thinking I was going to be a lash designer.
‣‣ [05:04] Let's talk about WHY I succeed in the things I'm successful in. You should consider this too.
‣‣ [07:55] We tend to overcomplicate things by thinking more than doing. If you want to succeed you need to decide. We talk about that more here.

Sheila Bella:
You're listening to the Pretty Rich Podcast, where you are totally the heroine of your own story. I'm your host, Sheila Bella. And I built a seven-figure PMU biz without a degree, without a fancy website, or a sugar daddy. And if you and I hang out here long enough, you're going to start to believe that you can do it, too, because you really can. I know you think I don't know you, but I do. I really, really do because I am you. And I believe we're all on the same journey together.
My perfect job didn't exist, so I created it. The job I wanted wasn't hiring me, so I skipped the line and hired myself as CEO, just like you can. So, consider me your secret beauty biz BFF. In case you need to be reminded, that power is never given to you. You just have to take it. Are you ready, beauty boss? Let's jump in.
Oh, new intro. What? I freaking love it. Today, we're going to make some moves. You're not just going to listen to this aimlessly. We're going to make some moves together, okay? We're going to have a real heart-to-heart. We're going to talk about why is it. We're going to get to the root of it. Why is it that the things you said you were going to accomplish by now haven't happened yet? So for those of you who made resolutions New Year's Eve 2018 and you're like, "2019's going to be my year. I'mma crush it," and some of you maybe you did. Maybe you did crush those goals. Congratulations. And others, maybe you're like, "Dude, what? The year already passed? I didn't meet my goals."
I'm going to tell you guys a story. Many of you guys know that I'm obsessed with my upcoming live event for PMU Boss Babe. It's called the Pretty Ambitious Summit. It's going to be happening here in Santa Monica, California, March of 2020. I am expecting 300 glorious attendees. I'm going to open up about something, though, that, number one, I wasn't expecting that big of an attendance. And number two, did you guys know that I tried to do this about a year and a half ago and it flopped? It flopped.
I launched my podcast, and then I think the week after that I announced a live event. I called it the Pretty Rich Seminar. I was expecting maybe, I don't know, like 50 girls or something like that. I still have the Instagram post. That post got, I don't know, like 10 likes or something like that, and I think two of them were my mom's accounts. My mom has two accounts. I got two people interested. Woo-hoo! Two people who are interested. One of them was actually a student of mine, a microblading student of mine that I kind of had to convince to be interested, but in person. I had to see her in person and get her to be interested.
So, that event, needless to say, never happened. Didn't happen. I think I had to refund somebody their deposit, actually, because it never happened. So, why is it that now I have over 300 people coming to my first live event? What did I do differently? I'm going to get to that. I'm going to get to that.
But before I get to that, I want to give you a second example. People always ask me about my false eyelash strips or my eyelashes on Instagram stories or on photos or whatever. Did you guys know I also tried to launch a lash line? Because people were asking me and I was like, "Oh, well, why am I referring them to this company where I could just design my own lashes?" I told myself like, "Okay, so I'm going to start this. I'm going to be a lash designer. Boom."
So I got a small batch. You got to start. I got a small batch. Then, I said, "Okay, I'm a lash designer now. Yay!" Can I just tell you that I am like the only customer of my own lash line. That was maybe three years ago. I have so much left over. I have so much left over from that initial order that I don't need to buy lashes anymore. I might be set for a few years. So, that was also a flop.
But, before I get into the reason as to why, I want to tell you that everything that I've ever decided I was going to be successful in, I was successful in. I know that sounds arrogant, but let me explain. The reason why those projects were a complete and utter failure was simply because I lacked decision. I hadn't truly decided. I was half-assing it. And you know for anything to take off, you have to give the full ass. All of it, stretch marks, butt hole, hair if you have it, dimples. You have to show it all. You have to shake it all.
And I have to say, that first time that I tried to launch that Pretty Rich Seminar, I wasn't super into it. I didn't even have a plan. I didn't even have a course. I didn't have an itinerary. You know what? Here's the biggest, the biggest clue that I was only half-assing it and not the full ass. I didn't put down a deposit. I didn't have a location. Why? Because I wasn't sure. I told myself I was sure, but actions speak louder, right? No. I didn't put my money down. I didn't want to risk. But the Pretty Ambitious Summit, you bet I made a deposit before I announced. Yeah. So, there's something about investing the money, I have to say, that transforms your drive.
The lashes thing, I didn't really decide either. I told myself like, "Yes, I made the decision to get the made." Yes, I made the decision to get them made. I made the decision for what I wanted the packaging to look like. Great. But, a decision is something you can't just do once or twice. It is a daily commitment. You have to decide every day that this is now the new you.
I talk about my live event all the time because I decide every day that this is happening. This will change the game for everyone. This will be a movement, a positive movement in the world of PMU. And I make that decision daily. So if you're sitting on the potty ... Why do I have all these butt references? Oh, well. So if you're sitting on the potty deciding like, "Should I poop? Should I ..." You got to let it out. Because if you truly haven't made up your mind that this is now the new you, it'll never take off.
And for a lot of you listening to this, you're overcomplicating it. You're, overcomplicating it. All you need to do is decide. If you haven't decided, no coach, no program, no friend, no partner, no book that you read, or even this podcast that you're listening to right now is going to make any difference. Indecision kills. Decision is the key ingredient to succeeding at anything.
So if there's anything that you want aim for in 2020, don't just aim. Make up your mind. Decide that it will just be so. Every day when you wake up, tell yourself, tell the universe that this is now you. You are the boss of your own universe. If you're unhappy, if you're in a rut, if you're feeling stuck, it's most likely because you haven't truly made the decision to get out of it.
What's up, PMU sister friend? No, seriously, do you want new clients all the time? Do you want to end the worry and anxiety over where your next client is going to come from? How awesome would it be to have a steady, I'm talking steady, flow of leads and calls to your business inquiring about your services? I'm inviting you to stop stressing and start living with my new online course NCC, which stands for New Clients Consistently. Here, you will learn how to guarantee how that one client that loved you so much is going to turn into 10 more. There's a formula to this, and it works. It works so well.
This course is going to teach you how to create new clients out of the current ones that you do have. So if you have a PMU, lash, or any beauty business that's struggling, you've got to check this out. This is everything. This is the secret right here. It's a new era. You got to shake things up. Because if what you're doing isn't working, stop doing it. Your pattern isn't working, so you need to get a new one. And this is the ultimate pattern interrupt. So, stop what you're doing. You got to go to sheilabella.com/NCC. Let's get you those new clients consistently, and I'll see you inside.
I know that sounds harsh, and it sounds so simplistic. Yeah, I know. But if I don't speak out the truth, I would be useless to you. If I were to sugarcoat things, then this podcast would be a joke. I have to tell you. You have to decide who you want to be moment by moment. And it's in those moments where you really don't feel like doing it, where you really don't feel like doing it that matter the most.
And here's the biggest clue. Here's the biggest tell-all that you've actually decided. Decision looks like action. It looks like action. If you haven't moved, if you haven't budged, those who don't act simply haven't decided. And if you're sitting there going like, "Oh, Sheila, I've made up my ... Yes, I'm with you. I have decided," and if you are on that boat, if that is your mentality, and that is your mindset, ooh, 2020 should be scared of you. Because nothing is more powerful than a woman who has made up her mind. A woman who has decided is like a brush fire onto the landscape of her past life, burning down old stories, tearing away old habits, and disintegrating toxic environments and toxic relationships that simply just don't serve her anymore.
So if that hit home for you. I want to journey with you this new year. I want to watch you decide to finally build the business, start the podcast, have that difficult conversation with your boss, with your spouse, with your relative. Buy the freaking ticket that you know is going to change your life. Invent the product, this thing that you've had in your head for years. But, now I want you to make it tangible that you can hold it in your hand and proclaim it to the world that you made this. Make up your mind. Say yes to adventure. Say no to what feels icky and wrong. Book the freaking venue. Put the money down. It will change everything.
And if decision truly looks like action, you've got to end that relationship. You've got to reach out and start that friendship. You've got to put down that deposit. You've got to picture the most confident version of yourself and decide that you are her right freaking now, not 1 year from now, not 3, not 5, not 10 years from now. You are her right now. That's it for today's episode. Until next time.
