No matter where you are in your beauty business (though preferably you would start sooner than later) you should be investing in your beauty business. Putting money into it, along with hard work, is really the only way it will continue to grow.
But where should you put that money? Well, we're here to help you out. You may have heard of a little thing called the Vegas PMU Conference? I brought in the mastermind behind it all, Portia Ijidakinro, to help me dive into the top 10 things that you should be investing in to grow your beauty business. So get your wallets out, beauty babes, and let's get growing.
Here are the episode highlights:
‣‣ [05:56] Jumping straight into it, you should be investing in continuous education. You're never going to know everything but you should be on top of new techniques and improvements in the industry, or you're just going to fall behind.
‣‣ [07:29] Invest in your community! Invest in making friends in the industry.
‣‣ [11:01] Advertising is what's going to grow your business, right? Part of your advertising, especially on social media (which you know I'm big on), is before and after photos. So invest in high-quality photos. Whether it's good lighting, a better camera, or just a course on taking better photos. Invest.
‣‣ [15:34] Next, the beauty industry can be hard to navigate when you first get started. So invest in a mentor, someone who can guide you through and teach you from their mistakes so that you don't have to make the same ones.
‣‣ [18:24] Know how to price yourself and your art! This is super important because you don't want to undersell yourself, definitely, but you also don't want to aim so high that you're not going to get any clients.
‣‣ [20:58] You cannot, I repeat, cannot run a successful business if you can't take care of yourself. You can't take care of OTHERS if you can't take care of yourself. So invest in yourself, in your wellbeing, in your mental health.
‣‣ [25:11] Some of you might just be like "bring me all of the new clients I need to invest in new clients" and I get that. But I think it's also incredibly important to invest in your existing clients.
‣‣ [28:00] You can't manage every aspect of your business. Maybe you can at the beginning but once you start to grow you should absolutely hire an assistant and get someone on top of your books. I've coached enough beauty bosses okay, you need to hire someone.
‣‣ [30:16] Finally, I ask Portia for her best advice on how to live a pretty rich life.
I loved having Portia on the show for this episode! She's so inspirational and she's done so much for the PMU industry and the community! You can find her on Instagram, right here!
