Here are the episode highlights:
‣‣ [07:47] I want to start by sharing this embarrassing story with you because it shows just how unconfident I was and how unsure I was in my own ability to succeed, which might be somewhere similar to where you are right now.
‣‣ [10:45] What are the beliefs that are holding YOU back from believing you can be a millionaire?
‣‣ [11:41] Really the key to my success is that I'm not afraid to put myself out there and look dumb.
‣‣ [13:35] You don't have to have a degree or be what is traditionally considered "smart" in order to be a millionaire. You really don't. This is how you do it.
‣‣ [17:42] Ask yourself the question: what are you willing to give up to be a millionaire?

Sheila Bella:
I am absolutely convinced that anyone who really wants to be a millionaire like the game show will be a millionaire. If you want to be a millionaire, you're going to be one. And I'm going to explain all that and so much more on today's episode of Pretty Rich podcast. Welcome to Pretty Rich podcast, where you're totally the heroine of your own story. I'm your host, Sheila Bella. And I built a seven figure PMU beauty biz, and a seven figure online biz without a degree, without a fancy website or a sugar daddy. And if you and I hang out on here long enough, you're going to start to believe that you can do it too. How about that for a side effect of listening to this podcast?
Because you really can. I know you think, I don't know you, I have no idea who you are, but I do. I really, really do because I am you. I was you, and I believe we are all on the same journey together. My perfect job didn't exist so I created it. The job I wanted, wasn't wanting me, wanted nothing to do with me. So I skipped the line and hired myself as CEO just like you can. So consider me your secret beauty biz BFF, in case you need to be reminded on a weekly basis that power is never just handed to you, you have to take it. Are you ready beauty boss? Let's jump in.
What's up, what's up you guys? How you doing? How you doing? How you doing? Oh my gosh. So, today I am going to talk about becoming a millionaire, just for lack of a better term for it. I guess being a millionaire is like a goal, like seven figures is like the number, it's like the number to hit. So yeah, I guess I'm going to ride off of that idea. But the point is, if you want to be successful, you're going to be successful. If you want to be a millionaire, you're going to be one. So this idea has been on my heart now for a couple of months, I'd say like a good two months. And I'm going to explain all that and more, but first of all, I just wanted to chat with you about our new mentorship program called Pretty Rich Bosses. For those of you who've been listening to this podcast for a while, have probably heard of Pretty Rich University.
It is Pretty Rich University on steroids. Why? Why is it on steroids, Sheila? Because this is one on one business coaching, as well as group coaching. And you get access to the vault and everything, but it is one on one business coaching. And I just believe in this model, this new model that we've been doing now for a couple of months and seeing a lot of our students get consistent wins and hitting their goals. I am obsessed with Pretty Rich Bosses. Now, you might have some questions like Sheila, why one-on-one? Why can't you just give us access to group coaching, access to you, access to the Facebook group? Why one-on-one? So a lot of you guys who listen to this podcast probably come from the permanent make-up world, lash world, the beauty world. What have you?
Now my question for you is this? If you were to watch a couple of YouTube videos on somebody doing the procedure, whether it's a microblading procedure, somebody lashing, somebody doing a spray tan on somebody. Do you think you'll be able to possess that skill efficiently if you just watched a bunch of videos on it? Probably not. For many of you who got training in whatever field that you do, let's just say it's permanent make-up, so for many of you who got training in permanent make-up, know that you're not really going to learn in a couple of days. The best situation would be to apprentice under somebody, or have a trainer next to you, or work under somebody or shadow under somebody for a couple of months so that they can see how you're working, assess your hand placement, assess how you're stretching the skin and how you're shaping the brow. Even if you're just like two millimeters off of your arch, it makes a huge difference.
Somebody watching you work is essential in order for you to possess that skill and own that skill professionally. So, why isn't it the same with business? It is the same with business. It's exactly the same with business. So I created this new model called Pretty Rich Bosses, where we're basically going to hold your hand through every step of the process. For a lot of you, time is ticking, time is ticking, you're like, "Where's my six figures. Where's my six figures. I've been listening to this podcast. I've been watching YouTube videos. I have attended this conference and that conference, and you know what? I still don't have my multiple six figures or my seven figures. What am I doing wrong?"
What you need is some personal attention from somebody who's been there before. What you need is for somebody who is an expert already, and has had success in the very thing that you want to have success in to come inside your business, okay? Inside your business, come check it out, seeing, how are you doing your marketing? How are you doing your books? What are you paying these people? What kind of agreement do you have with them? All of these things, you can't just learn through a video. You need a customized pathway. So, Pretty Rich Bosses isn't a one size fits all program, it's a customized pathway for you to succeed. And it is a beautiful, beautiful community that I've created. The relationships formed in that community are lifelong. And it is not only effective, it is deeply fulfilling because of the beautiful relationships that are formed inside that community. And I'm so, so grateful for that.
So, if that's something that you want to check out, if that's something that you want to be a part of, if you're sick and tired of guessing, if you've been winging it in your business for way too long and you need somebody to really step in and help you get to the next level, because you don't want to blink and all of a sudden you're 60, 70 years old and you never reached your highest potential. If you want to learn from somebody who's been there before and learn it fast so you can create the lifestyle you've always wanted and start enjoying it sooner. Then what you got to do is apply. Go to sheilabella.com/apply. Make sure it's all lowercase. We've tried it uppercase a little bit, and it doesn't work. sheilabella.com/apply.
And by applying, we can assess whether or not you're a good fit for our program. And if everything on your application looks good and it seems like you might be a good fit for our program, then we're going to dig deeper and we're going to schedule a complimentary strategy session so we can get you some clarity on your business, give you some direction and some pointers so we can map this out. Like for real, to give you at least a starting point of what it is that your business is missing, what it is that you haven't done yet, and what it is you need to do in order to get to where you want to be. Again, sheilabella.com/apply to set up a strategy call. Okay.
Now, back to today's podcast, let's talk about, do you want to be millionaire? Of course. Of course, I want to be a millionaire. Most people would say. Right? Okay. So let me tell you a little story and it's embarrassing, but I'm going to tell you. So, about 10 years ago, when I first met my father-in-law, or my soon to be father-in-law, he was my boyfriend's dad at the time, he was intimidating. He's a really nice guy, but it was just my perception of him. I was intimidated because I wasn't very secure in myself, I guess. Anyway, we were at the oldest restaurant in the country, fun fact, I think it was in Boston. And he asked me who the vice president of the United States was and I didn't know. I don't know how it came up in conversation. He wasn't trying to stump me to my knowledge. I don't think so.
I don't think he was trying to stump me to find out like, let me test this girl. Let me give her some trivia to see if this chick that my son is dating a real airhead or not like she looks like in her pictures. I don't think he was trying to stump me. But anyway, regardless, he asked me who the vice president was and I didn't know. I felt so dumb. I did. And I talked to my boyfriend, now husband, about it later on that night. And I was like, "Oh my gosh, I think your family hates me. Oh my gosh. They think I'm so stupid." Anyway. So, let's fast forward two years after that incident. Two years after that incident, I guess you could say I brushed that dirt off my shoulder and I was like, all right, fine. Just who cares if I don't know who the vice president is? It's Biden. Okay. It's Biden. I looked it up. Now I know.
And yeah, two years later my business became a seven figure business. And I guess you could say it was a big surprise. It was a big surprise because, aren't the smartest people supposed to be the most successful? But what does smart even mean? Is smart like knowing facts. Yes. That's one type of smart. But to me smart is somebody who can basically conjure or control an outcome to their wishes. So, why do I tell you this story? Why do I tell you this super embarrassing story? I'm not any smarter than you. I guess I just want to level the playing field for any of you who are like, "Sheila, why the heck do you keep talking seven figure this, seven figure that. I just want to get to $20,000 a month and my life is going to be made." I talk to a lot of you, and you making $83,000 a month, which means $1 million a year, you can't even fathom it.
You're like, no. You don't even entertain the idea because it's such a massive number. It's not even like in your DNA to identify with a seven figure earner. I want to challenge you today, in order to get to $1 million a year, that's $83,000 a month. If you have a goal of making $20,000 a month, you just need to 4x that goal. My philosophy is, if you've done it already, you can just duplicate the same process. Just somewhere else, just duplicate the same process. Like hire people, start another branch, et cetera, et cetera. Right? But definitely doing that is going to require for you to put yourself out there. It's going to require for you to make mistakes. That is a requirement. So I tell you the story, because I want you to know that I'm not any smarter than you.
I don't look any smarter than you that's for sure. Especially if it's a picture. I look like deer in headlights or like doe eyes half the time. Like, who is this cartoon character? You guys, if you have no idea what I look like, just look at my Instagram page. I feel like my eyes look like bug eyes. Like they're about to fall out of my sockets. So, I'm not any smarter than you. Okay? I'm just willing to look dumber. I'm willing to make mistakes. I'm willing to put it out there before it's perfect. I'm willing to present myself in a way that isn't the finished product, let's just put it that way. I present myself in this super unpolished casual way because that's me. That's me. What I do know, maybe I don't know a lot of things. I don't know facts.
I don't know things. I don't know a lot of US history, which is crazy, because my husband's a US history teacher, but I do know people. I know people really well. I see patterns. And you know what else? I'm resourceful AF. If I want something done, I'll find a way. So I started my business, my now seven figure PMU business and a seven figure online business, I started this whole journey with a flip phone in a small 900 square foot apartment, and I had like $342 in the bank. That's it. I think I had some change in my car, in my Yaris, my Toyota Yaris, which was like the cheapest Toyota at the time. But what did I do? What did I do? I didn't have a degree. I didn't have any experience in building businesses or anything like that.
I got desperate. I just really freaking wanted it. I really wanted it. So, I got real scrappy. I Googled. Number one, how to build a website, how to edit videos, how to use social media. I got really nerdy about eyebrows, and about hair patterns, and about color theory and just marketing in general. I listened to a lot of books. I listened to a lot of podcasts. I pulled all nighters on that instead of studying for college finals, instead of watching Netflix. So, I have a lot of friends actually who have their degrees, who have their masters, and I've hired them. And that's not a dig on them, because I don't know if I had the patience to finish school. Now, I don't think I could ever graduate or finish or get a degree. I guess, I didn't want to. I didn't want to.
So, I know now that real credentials, when you claim that you can do something well, or when you claim that you're an expert at something should come from experience. Not just reading a book on it or getting tested on it, it should come from results. Because sitting on your butt, isn't going to solve anything. So I'm just like you, tons of anxiety, technically challenges, afraid of freaking criticism, but maybe I've been criticized so much already that I just stopped caring or cared less. You never, never not care, but yeah, you just learn to care less. And I just realized that the pain of staying the same hurts more than the pain of possibly getting criticized, possibly getting embarrassed in front of a lot of people. And I know that building the life and business that I love isn't going to come from polished perfection and having it all together, it's going to come from me refusing to take no for a freaking answer.
It's going to come from showing up every single day, bravely putting one foot in front of the other even if I look stupid doing it. And it's 10 years later now, and the rules haven't changed. The rules haven't changed. So how will you take messy action today in your beauty business, pandemic and all. Because here's the thing, leaders these days have been replaced by influencers. Do you agree? Do you disagree? Leaders have been replaced by influencers. Leaders tell you the things you need to hear but you don't want to hear. Like maybe I'm trying to do right now because this isn't a pleasant message for me to deliver right now. I'm sure to a lot of you, maybe like half of you have probably tuned me out.
But influencers on the other hand, tell you only the things that you want to hear and they dance around the subject instead of shooting you straight for fear that you're going to go somewhere else, for fear that you're going to follow someone else, you're going to unsubscribe, you're going to unfollow because you told them something that they really needed to hear but it was uncomfortable. Man. There is no way I am leaving a legacy of being a sugar coater influencer. I don't want to be remembered for that. So I had to give it to you straight. A lot of you guys say you want to be successful and you know exactly what you want. Okay? You can describe it to me. You guys want the white marble studio with the gold accents. That seems to be every beauticians dream studio. Right? But you haven't been able to tell me what you don't want.
The true test of how badly you want it is, what are you willing to give up to get it? I believe that if you really want to be a millionaire, you're absolutely going to be a millionaire. Because if you really wanted it, if you really wanted it, you're going to exhaust all possibilities. You're going to take all the classes you can take. You're going to look under every rock and every corner and make sure that you leave no stone unturned for that million dollar business. When there's an opportunity for a free training, you're going to get it. If somebody tells you to do something in that free training, and you're going to apply it. When somebody offers their expertise because they've done it before, you're going to take it. If there is a book that somebody recommends to you because it might help you get to your goal faster, you're going to read it.
And you're not just going to read it, you're going to try it. You're going to apply it. Even if it means waking up earlier, even if it means foregoing sleep, even if it means skipping meals, if you want to be successful, you're going to be successful. If that is your attitude, if that is how you approach your business and how you approach your life like what I did, it is inevitable. When you get knocked down, you're going to get back up, relentlessly, over and over and over again because you must make this work. In your mind there's no other option. Maybe you have a chip on your shoulder like what I do. I want to provide a freaking awesome life for my family and I'll do anything it takes for them to get it. Are you willing to do anything? Are you willing to give up comfort? Are you willing to give up money? Are you willing to give up your time?
And to be honest with you, giving up time and money is much easier than having to give up comfort. Once it gets to that point of you having to give up your comfort, it's probably already too late. Not only will you have to give up your comfort, but the comfort of those who rely on you. So, invest your time in your business while you still can. Invest money in your business while you still can. Both are necessary in order for you to succeed. And anyone who tells you otherwise is probably selling snake oil, is probably an influencer with abs or no abs, I don't know. Anyway, I'm not here to tell you that you can manifest a mansion into reality without any investment, because you cannot. If that's your way of thinking, I'm not the leader for you. You need both belief as well as action. Thank you so much. If this resonated with you in any way at all, please share with a friend, someone who needs to hear it, or share it on your social media and tag me I'd love to hear your thoughts. Until next time.
