Ep. 104: From Burnout To BOOM - How To Take The Leap From Esti To PMU Boss With Maya Moore of Moore Beauty Love

If you can't control it, let it go.

Maya Moore is someone that I've wanted to have on Pretty Rich Podcast for a while. She's an incredibly talented permanent makeup artist and educator and she just has the best reputation. Before I connected with her, I only heard good things about her. And now that we've had the chance to talk, I can confirm, she's a total light.

I really enjoyed having her on the show for this episode and I know you'll enjoy her too. We talked about her experience hitting rock bottom in 2008, how she got herself out of that spiral, her start in PMU, and the best advice you need if you're just starting out or struggling to make it work.

Here are the episode highlights:

‣‣  [18:21]  First, I encourage you to just take a moment to get to know Maya. We start with some rapid-fire questions here.

‣‣  [28:50]  I ask Maya to walk us through her favorite achievement and her favorite failure.

Ep. 103: Brow Stencils! How Maddie Thompson, CEO of Madluvv Brows Took One Idea And Spun Gold With It, Changing The Permanent Makeup And Brow Game Forever!

Have you ever dreamed of being an entrepreneur, creating and selling your own products? Have you ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes? What goes into thinking up new ideas, executing them, and selling them to customers?

It can be overwhelming to start a new venture, especially when you don't have an example of someone to look up to. That's why I reached out to Maddie Thompson, CEO of madluvvbrows, and asked her to be on this episode of the podcast with me.

Maddie and her team at madluvvbrows have seriously changed the brow game - not exaggerating. Not only are their stencils and brow stamps life-changing for PMU artists like myself, but they're also incredibly useful for the every day beauty product user. Seriously, I have my brows microbladed but I still use her stencils to do a nice touch-up day-to-day.

She started as a self-taught makeup artist, got certified in microblading, and realized there was a need for high quality, reliable eyebrow...

Ep. 102: Fourth Of July, Coming To America As An Immigrant From The Philippines, and Building My Dream Beauty Business

There are a lot of things going on in the United States right now. This Fourth of July might feel a little off. I want to take this time to be intentional and reflective of the life I've been able to build since my family immigrated to this country.

I want to be really honest in this episode. This is one of those special episodes where I feel like I can just sit with you and my microphone (or in this case my iPhone headphones) and just catch up with how we're all feeling.

It's been a hard couple of months. These last couple of weeks have definitely reminded me to slow down and be grateful for the privileges that I've been blessed with and be thankful for all of the work that my family did and the sacrifices they made on their journey.

So I just want to reflect on all of that and my history with you, and I hope that you'll take the moment to reflect with me too.

Here are the episode highlights:

‣‣  [05:03]  I want to go back in time...

Ep. 99: Combating Self Doubt with Rosie McCorvey of Brows and Beauty Company

"Am I good enough?"

"Do I belong?"

Have you found yourself asking these questions at some point in your life? Maybe even for the majority of it? ME. TOO.

Why? Reasons like "Because I never went to college," "Because I was a chubby kid," "Because I was never really athletic," whatever it might be, I think everybody asks these questions of themselves.

In this episode, Rosie McCorvey and I tackle self-doubt. If you feel like you still have something to prove, if you feel like you still don't truly belong, you can't miss this one! This episode is FOR YOU

We talk about imposter syndrome, how it feeds your self-doubt, and what to do with it.

Rosie heads up the discussion about the difference between discipline and motivation and how one will be the driving force of you building your empire.

We also talk about how even in the middle of a pandemic you are NOT limited! I talk about utilizing online...

Ep. 65: What To Do When Someone Copies Your Beauty Business Idea

You know, more than anybody, that real entrepreneurship is an internal process of constant innovation. You're like a little beauty business ninja. Hopefully your outfit's pink. Mine would be.

I can't tell you enough how painful it can be when someone just copies your business, any aspect of it. Anything that you put your hard effort and passion into that just gets nabbed by another person to use for their own benefit? I mean, if you've gone through it you know, it sucks. But it's not the end of the world. Take it from me, I've been there countless times. I've been hurt but people I barely knew and people that were really close to me. I've been hurt by people I thought I could trust. It all sucks.

But I, and my business, have survived! And I guarantee that there are people reading this that are nodding their heads along like "Yup, Sheila's right again. Been there, done that. But I made it out." So, in this episode, I'm going to talk all about what you...

Ep. 60: I Was A Teen Mom. What To Do When Every Door Closes On You With Christine Di'amore

"I got this" doesn't have to mean you have a solution. "I got this" means that you're the driver in the car. You have a say. You've gone through worse and you will persevere to make it work just like you always have.

Christine Di'Amore had to turn her life around when she became pregnant with her son, Lex, in high school. She picked up her grades, got a life-changing job as a waitress at Hooter's, and became determined to build a better life for her family. Now she's a super successful YouTuber and an inspiration.

In this episode, I connect a lot with Christine as someone who felt extremely lost after high school and ended up not getting any degree. We talk about rocky starts, taking risks, and becoming your own boss. For those of you who feel like doors just keep getting shut in your face, this is for you.

Here are the episode highlights:

Do you want to have a successful beauty business? Do you think you can do that while being basic? Absolutely not.

But don't worry! My good friend microblader and educator, Sandi Jones of Couture Brows, and I are here to teach you how you can not be basic and help you become the beauty business boss of your dreams.

Creating a successful beauty business is hard but it's even harder when you're just doing the same thing as everybody else. There are a lot of us out there, right? You need to help yourself stand out. You need to be, well, not basic.

That's why Sandi and I teamed up for this episode.

In this podcast, we're gonna break down all the tips for not being basic:

Ep. 58: Ever Been Called "Too Much" - International Cosmetic Show Miami 2019

Where did this come from? Where did this concept of "too much" come from? And what happened in my life that I feel like I have to respond to it like this?

Have you ever been accused of being too much? Have you had people tell you that you need to tone it down or be quiet? It hurts doesn't it? It's really painful.

Maybe you're not entirely sure where that feeling comes from. I know, personally, I've had to do a lot of digging to figure out where it all started. For a lot of us, especially as women, it's super common to be told that you're taking up too much space, that you're too loud, that you're too emotional, that you're too much. So we shrink in on ourselves, right? We start to make ourselves small.

Here's the thing, you have to unpack that feeling and you have to start to unshrink yourself. You're trying to be a successful boss babe, right? You can't do that when you're feeling small. When you're afraid to be loud and proud and assert...
